Programme Outline

Stage 4 (candidates not in employment)

The Business Development and Employability Team at Tell, through employer engagement and employer demand information create Modern Apprenticeship (MA) vacancies to which eligible candidates can apply. Eligibility will depend on the MA qualification attached to the vacancy and/or employer requirements.

Tell will match individual applications to the vacancy, taking into account eligibility criteria and can provide candidates with pre-interview guidance as appropriate. Some vacancies will require candidates to undergo aptitude testing e.g. engineering.

Employers have the final decision who they interview and eventually recruit.

Modern Apprenticeship funding is provided through Tell’s annual contract with Skills Development Scotland, which allows us to allocate funding/partial funding to candidates within employment or who are about to become employed in specific sectors as detailed above. These candidates are inducted into the qualification once employed and will work towards their MA primarily in two ways:

  • Wholly competence, work based, on the job training, collating evidence from the workplace to achieve the standards within the qualification

  • A mixture of on the job and off the job structured training, with off the job training taking place in either a college or training centre environment

Modern Apprentices must be in employment, therefore all candidates will eventually be Stage 5.

Stage 5 (candidates in employment)

Employers contact Tell, having already recruited the individual(s) into the post.  Tell then determines the appropriate MA route for the employer and the individual and inducts the candidate as above.

Tell support the candidates throughout their time on the Modern Apprenticeship programme.  This can vary from 6 months to 4 years, depending on the qualification and level required to be achieved.  An assessor is allocated to the MA from the outset and remains with them throughout their qualification.  Formal quarterly reviews are mandatory involving the candidate, employer and the assessor to ensure effective panning for the delivery of the programme and common understanding.
